Handing Out Awards...

Tom Weiner has started a blog relatively recently and he has been quite busy!! His blog is called Vietnam War Draft Stories. He has been writing a book .. He wants to help heal the pain still going on from that war and build bridges.

I looked into the faces of the students I addressed last Tuesday and they certainly seemed determined to learn as much as they could about war and resistance. I am trying to figure out a way to attend the class where they report back about their interviews and the effect of hearing a "warrior's" story has had on them. It is my hope, as it so clearly is yours, that these students will speak truth to power when their time comes and prevent the endless cycle of using violence to solve problems. I certainly hope the book I have written shows how hurtful the draft was and always is...
Thanks for your thoughtful words, Sarah...

The Democrats in office now in the hallowed halls of Congress need to keep being reminded that what they are allowing to continue is another scenario that must be remembered 30-odd years later, because the lives affected now will change forever. If that's not enough reason to stand stronger I don't know what is. If this book contributes to one powerful (or should that be in quotes, I don't know any longer) person standing stronger on behalf of those sent so far for reasons that make no sense whatsoever, I think it will have more than done its job. Already, by having us think about these connections, we can push harder to beg those who should to stand stronger (because that's what they were elected--by us--to do(.

Hi Tom, what a great opportunity for these kids in this class. It is so moving to me to read about your process. Each time I hear about it, I learn more and am so appreciative of the insight you have put into this project.

It is wrenching ... and important ... to read even these tidbits!!
