The ever-changing world of science is no longer a secret. Recently, science in the service of the justice sector has allowed a remarkable achievement. Indeed, nearly twelve years after a gang rape of a young woman, the alleged perpetrators have been identified using DNA.
Back in 2009, at the time of the rape
The history of rape dates back almost twelve years and took place in Bayonne, France. In fact, on October 3, 2009, a woman aged around 40 was allegedly raped and then beaten up by two men. According to the investigation report, this young woman had just left a nightclub where she had gone to let off steam. Two men in the nightclub who identified him followed him. They allegedly approached her in the street while offering to drive her home. After a few moments of reluctance, the young woman, drunk, would therefore have accepted their help. The two men, then aged 19 and 29, took the opportunity to drive it close to a river. This is where they allegedly raped and then injured her. After this gang rape, the young woman spent about two hours in a state of unconsciousness.
Identification of suspects using DNA samples
Several days after the investigations, the police were unable to locate the two rapists. All hope of finding them therefore seemed lost. But on March 1, 2021, the older of the two alleged rapists was arrested and then taken into custody for a case of violence within his family. It was after taking his DNA that a comparison made the connection. A few days later, the second suspect was arrested. They will therefore answer for their actions in court, twelve years later.
